Hot Tip of the Day    (7-25-08)

Question: What to do on those days when depression sits in, and you simply cannot function.

Answer: This is a difficult situation, since we usually don't know when depression is coming until it hits us. At that time, we have to deal with it directly and quickly.

Now remember that eventhough we are bipolar, we can still experience situational depression. Not every occurance is part of our illness. It CAN be, but it doesn't HAVE to be.

So first determine if your dep;ression is situational; that is, is it due to something someone said or did to you or another person? Did a tragedy just occur in your life or the life of someone dear to you? Has your life been impacted in any way?

If you discover that it is situational, then change either the situation, or your perception of the situation. Take a look at your sensitivity; are you overly sensitive? Is this something from which you can simply walk away? If so, then walk. If not, try to find a way to deal with it. (Hint: If you can't deal with a situation, or walk away - which is another form of dealing - then consider this occurance a flair-up of the ol' BiPo.

If you just don't know,, fail on the side of it being a part of your bipolar disease.
